Vista Nova is a Public Special School offering a multi-disciplinary team approach to the holistic education of the children attending the school. The children are accepted on the basis that they have certain barriers to learning which need to be overcome. It offers facilities to over four hundred children from the age of three years, in the Pre-Primary Section, to the age of eighteen or nineteen in Grade Twelve.
The pupils follow the same WCED curriculum as mainstream schools. The pupils in Grade Twelve write the same external examination, the National Senior Certificate. Some children who need to be placed at Vista Nova due to their diagnosis, and who cannot cope with the national curriculum, are offered an adapted curriculum to suit their needs. The size of our classes varies between twelve and sixteen in the Primary School while some classes at the High School are slightly larger.
The learner’s needs are addressed by the multi-disciplinary team of professionals who include teachers, psychologists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, occupational therapists and a nursing sister and a part-time doctor. The pupils are also supported by a number of other staff who include, class assistants, drivers, administration staff, general assistants and groundsmen.
Vista Nova draws pupils from the greater Cape Town area. The School provides a limited bus service.
The school is situated on two campuses some 4km apart. Our High School campus is in Loerie Avenue, Pinelands, and the Primary School is at 11 Milner Road Rondebosch.
