There are 3 full-time physiotherapists at Vista Nova who provide therapy and support to all the physically disabled pupils. Low muscle-tone children are seen in groups to support their physical development.

Our physiotherapists are supported by a private orthotist and private orthopaedic surgeon who hold regular clinics at our school. Physiotherapy aims to promote optimal gross and fine motor function in order to maximise each learner’s potential in the classroom, on the sports field and in the home and community.

Emphasis is on developing good postural control in order for the learner to utilise the muscles adequately for balance in sitting, standing and during all movement. Shoulder girdle stability and strength is essential in order to develop good fine motor function especially writing and manipulating objects with the hands. This is achieved through weight bearing exercises on the hands. Ball skills are incorporated into treatment sessions in order to improve self-esteem and peer interaction.
